Interstitial expansion in pressure overload left ventricular hypertrophy

چکیده
Background Diffuse myocardial fibrosis (DMF) is an important factor in cardiac disease, but until recently could only be accurately assessed with biopsy. We hypothesised that DMF measured by Equilibrium contrast CMR (EQ-CMR) is elevated in cardiac pressure overload (hypertension and aortic stenosis), that the degree of DMF will track the clinical severity of pressure overload and cardiac effects, and as such DMF may be a key biomarker in assessing the cardiac effects of pressure overload.

متن کاملResveratrol Suppresses Cardiac Renin Angiotensin System in the Late Phase of Left Ventricular Hypertrophy
Background and objectives: Resveratrol(3,5,4′-trihydroxy-trans-stilbene) is a natural polyphenole phytoalexin which exerts potential cardioprotective effects, but the cellular and molecular mechanisms responsible for these effects are still unknown. Cardiac renin angiotensin system (RAS) over-activation plays an important role in pathogenesis of left ventricula...
متن کاملEffect of Carvacrol on Catalase Activity and mRNA Expression Following Left Ventricular Hypertrophy in Rats
Background and Aims: Cardiac hypertrophy is a compensatory augmentation response of the heart due to pressure overload that can lead to heart failure. Carvacrol is considered as the major compound of many plants, that possesses strong antioxidant properties. The present study aimed to evaluate effect of carvacrol on catalase activity and mRNA expression following left ventricular hypertrop...
متن کاملRegression of pressure overload-induced left ventricular hypertrophy in mice.
As a prelude to investigating the mechanism of regression of pressure overload-induced left ventricular (LV) hypertrophy (LVH), we studied the time course for the development and subsequent regression of LVH as well as accompanying alterations in cardiac function, histology, and gene expression. Mice were subjected to aortic banding for 4 or 8 wk to establish LVH, and regression was initiated b...
متن کاملInvolvement of the nicotinamide adenosine dinucleotide phosphate oxidase isoform Nox2 in cardiac contractile dysfunction occurring in response to pressure overload.
OBJECTIVES This study sought to examine the role of Nox2 in the contractile dysfunction associated with pressure-overload left ventricular hypertrophy (LVH). BACKGROUND Reactive oxygen species (ROS) production is implicated in the pathophysiology of LVH. The nicotinamide adenosine dinucleotide phosphate oxidase isoform, Nox2, is pivotally involved in angiotensin II-induced hypertrophy but is ...
